After buying the new in-the-box appliances at $.25 on the dollar I posted a comment that went something like.... I can hardly wait to see what God will do next. I have a friend who has a lumber yard in No. Cal. We spoke a few days ago and he asked how quickly I could get up there because he had a bunch of surplus stuff for the cabin. Twenty-four hours and 450 miles later I was at his doorstep. He opened a container where he stored his mis-orders and such, and said to rummage through and take out anything I could use, and had one other strong word, "Don't leave until your truck is full!" The upshot is he gave me nine windows. (Seven were brand new!) And four new interior doors. Sounds funny but we are going to build the cabin around the windows. I did some drawings and found places for all of them. Some are slightly bigger than I wanted for long winters, but the price is right. Weight is critical so I weighed the windows.... 693 lbs.. I need to get a few more and we'll have all the glass. Basically I still need only one exterior door, four windows, all the framing lumber, exterior siding, and metal roofing to get it built and dry. Oh, plus the foundation concrete and a few odds and ends of hardware. A big expense yet will be getting all these materials up there. I'm going to buy the lumber up in Alaska because there is no way I can transport that much weight. My friend Richard made the following suggestion, "Buy a big pile of wood and throw away everything that doesn't look like a house." Thanx Richard. I'll consider that.
